The Clumsy Click Beetle by Eric Carle is our story this week.

Eric Carle books provide so many avenues for exploration. We'll use our compare and contrast skills:
- activities in the daytime vs night time
- which animals are bigger and which are smaller than the beetle
- features of the various animals encountered
Then, we'll talk about perseverance. The beetle keeps trying to turn back over even though it is very hard. This is an important life skill for all of us. I look forward to student responses about their own willingness to keep going when things get tough.
Next, we'll look at the Insectarium HD app on my iPad. I downloaded this on my personal account when it was free. It costs $4 now, so I can't afford to put it on all the student iPads. I will display it through my projector so that everyone can see it. There are some beautiful photos, tons of facts, and a handy compare feature that we can use to practice our compare and contrast skills by looking at two insects up close.
This is a great app that I will keep on price watch for other chances to get it for free for the cart.
