Opposites

Students have been learning about opposites in their class, and this week's lesson will reinforce those concepts.  I'll read the picture book, Big Dog, Little Dog.  The familiar opposite pairs in this book should get everybody comfortable with the kind of categorizing we can do with opposites.

Then, I'll read Daytie and Night-time Animals.  It's a little more advanced and lets us introduce a nonfiction book (emphasis in Common Core) for more real world application of the idea of opposites.

We'll spend some time brainstorming together about opposites around school.  Working with a partner, students will come up with a pair of opposites that they can illustrate for a class book.  This week, we'll work on sketching and working with a partner.  Next week, I'll show them how to use the iPods to take pictures and transfer them to a group project space so that we can edit the book together.  I haven't introduced much technology to the kindergarteners yet, but I think they are ready.
